About Community Corrections

Overview of Programs

Davidson County Community Corrections Program, hereinafter referred to as DCCCP, was developed as an alternative/ diversion to sentencing. DCCCP’s mission is to divert felony offenders from the Tennessee prison system by providing intensive community based supervision and treatment services necessary to reduce criminal behavior and create a safer community. In addition to its mission, DCCCP adheres to any special conditions set forth in the court order. DCCCP provides opportunities and incentives for criminal behavior change in order to reduce recidivism. DCCCP provides offenders with effective counseling services, education and training which will enhance their ability to live in the community as productive, law abiding citizens. Services include, but are not limited to, assessments for substance abuse and mental health issues (services of a licensed psychologist or licensed psychiatrist will be utilized in appropriate cases); intervention to address substance abuse, educational deficiencies, personality disorders, and/ or dual diagnosis either by inpatient or outpatient referral; and other life skills issues in order to foster appropriate functioning by the individual in his/ her environment.

DCCCP now offers a full range of services that meets the needs of most alternative sentencing candidates. These include Dual Disorders Services, Inpatient and Outpatient Treatment, Aftercare and Intensive Outpatient Treatment as well as a Community Service Placement Program.

Dual Disorders Services (DDS) is responsible for attending to offenders who may possess both substance abuse and mental illness. All offenders must comply with the same rules and regulations as Community Corrections with special emphasis on medication compliance and psychiatric treatment. DDS will assess all prospects prior to release. DDS will also arrange for housing the individual based on their needs, assist in providing medication and arrange any outside treatment if necessary.

Inpatient, Outpatient, Aftercare and Intensive Outpatient Treatment are all located at the Drug Court Residential facility. Each offender placed on the program is required to attend treatment at least once per week depending on the level of care. Inpatient Treatment offenders are required to complete a 12 month program, and then they are transferred to the Aftercare Program for a minimum of 6 months. Outpatient and Intensive Outpatient treatment or classes are offered through the Court Services Center. Each offender attends treatment class at least one to four times per week. Classes include: Criminal Lifestyles, Life Skills, Peer Relations, Rational Thinking, Alcohol and Drug Education, Relapse Prevention and Individual Counseling. They are also required to attend some outside NA/AA support meetings.
